How Geothermal Works

The temperature throughout the year will always vary no matter what climate you live in. For some climatic zones that means blazing summers that cool to frigid winters, and Mobile is no exception. What many people don't understand is that the temperature underground (regardless of climate or season) stays pretty consistent year round.

The ground is able to maintain a higher rate of constant temperature because it absorbs 47% of the sun's energy (heat) as it impacts the Earth's surface. WaterFurnace geothermal systems are able to draw from this free energy with an earth loop. This technology is then utilized to provide your home or office with central heating and cooling.

Geothermal Heating

Utilizing the earth loop, a WaterFurnace geothermal heat pump extracts the heat from the ground in the heating cycle. The geothermal system sucks the heat from the loops and distributes this warmed air through a standard duct system. Additional choices include using that same heat to provide hot water and radiant floor heating are available.

Geothermal Cooling

The heating process is reversed in the cooling mode - creating cool, conditioned air all through the home. Instead of extracting heat from the ground, heat is extracted from the air in your home and either moved back into the earth loop, or used to preheat the water in your hot water tank.
